Mariner soccer nationally ranked!!

The latest CCAA National rankings have our men ranked #11 and the women #13.
The Mariner Women earned a split on the weekend. 
On Saturday at Mariner Field they defeated UNBC by a score of 4 - 1
but on Sunday they dropped a 1 - 0 decision to Kwantlen College at Kwantlen.  Scoring for the Mariners on Saturday Kelly Kerr, Kathleen Mayor and Gillian Hardy with two goals.  On Sunday despite dominating most of the game the women were unable to find the net.

Mariner volleyball camp

Once again the Mariners are hosting its girls volleyball camp. .
Over 125 participants are filling the VIU and NDSS gyms.

The Mavericks were the first on the scoreboard with a PK goal by the Mariners to tie it up before the half. MESA controlled the ball most of the second half which led to the winning goal.
Next action for the Mariners will be a tournament in Victoria on the Labour Day Weekend.

Women bring home national bronze!!

Women bring home national bronze!! (1) team photo

The women's volleyball team defeated Humber College 3-0 to place third at the CCAA National Volleyball Championships in Turo Nova Scotia. Christina Chi was named a tournament first team All-Star.
Jamie Broder and Richelle Walton were second team tournament all-stars.
Our men tied for fifth .... losing four games by only two points and one by three.

Mariners are golden!

Mariners are golden! (1) team photo

The Men's and Women's Volleyball teams won gold at the 2006 BCCAA Provincial Championships. The women defeated Capilano in the finals 3-0 while the men defeated Camosun Chargers 3-0.
Christina Chi and Ryan Thibault were named MVP's of the Tournament
Richelle Walton, Jamie Broder, Donovan Britten and Ben Rahier were named to the Provincial All-Star team.

Mariners medal at provincials!!

Megan Yim and Kylee Abrahamson won silver in women's doubles at the BC's held at TRU this past weekend.

Bronze medals were won by Mayu Inada in women's singles

and in men's doubles Barry Arana teamed with Hikaru Otsuka.

Mariners bccaa bronze medal

The Mariner Badminton team captured the 2006 BCCAA Provincial (team) Bronze medal this weekend on home court. This weekend they travel to Kamloops to compete at the Individual championships @ TRU where they will hope to place some players on the BC team.

This years National Championships will be held in Alberta at Mount Royal College.

Mariner badminton places third

Malaspina Mariners Badminton got off to a great start at the season opener in Vancouver this weekend. With a great team effort the young team finished 3 rd in overall points behind very strong and experienced teams from Douglas (1 st ) and Langara College (2 nd ).

Mike Clark had the 'match of the tournament' almost taking out the 3 rd seed, Phil Weier of Douglas College, in the second round of Mens Singles in a 7-15, 15-10, 12-15 narrow defeat which lasted almost 90 minutes and captivated the spectators.

The Mariner Badminton team participated in the Campbell River Open
January 6-8th.

Malaspina's Mike Clark placed first in both the men's doubles B and mixed doubles B events, with partners Hikaru Otsuka and Kylee Abrahamson, respectively.

Janice Walker (coach of the M's) also won two categories, teaming with Geraldine McLean of Victoria to win the women's doubles A event and also capturing the mixed doubles 40-and-over class with Marc Petreman (a former mariner).

Barry Arana and Megan Yim won mixed doubles C,

with Arana also finishing first in the men's singles C division.

Annie Zhang won the women's singles D event.Nenad Biga and Lek Tang teamed up to claim first in men's doubles D.
