Congratulations to Jessica Stubbs and Kylie Crick on Athlete of the week honors from the provincial association.
Kylie was the driving force in Malaspina's dominating wins this past weekend. On Friday night, Malaspina pulled off a three set, one-sided victory over rivals and the 3 rd nationally ranked Capilano College . Kylie recorded 12 kills, 3 blocks, 1 ace and 7 digs in their three set victory with scores of 25-15, 25-13, 25-23. On Saturday, Malaspina continued their strong play with another three set sweep, this time over Douglas College . Kylie had 0 hitting errors, 13 kills, 2 blocks, 1 ace and 5 digs in just over 2 sets of play. Her weekend totals were an amazing 25 kills, 5 blocks, 2 aces and 12 digs.

Mariners ranked #1 in canada !!

The women's volleyball team with a 3-0 record in league play are ranked #1 nationally.
The women have won 9 of 10 games played in league.
They face the COTR Avalanche and the Selkirk saints this weekend.

Badminton places fourth!!

The Mariners placed fourth out of seven teams competing in the first BCCAA badminton event. The event was hosted at Malaspina all day saturday and sunday. The Mariners best result in the individual events went to ALI LOEWEN taking first place.

Women's volleyball wins cbc tournament

Women's volleyball wins cbc tournament (1) team photo

The Mariner Women's Volleyball team won 5 straight matches losing only one game
in 15 played. They defeated UBC-Okanagan Lakers 3-0 in the final 26-24, 25-22, 25-20.

Leigh Dreher was the tournament MVP and Jackie Tait was a tournament All-Star.
The team competes in their first league games of the season this weekend in Victoria.
First League home games take place Nov 16/17.

Men's volleyball

On Friday, Oct 26th the Mariners defeated the Island All-Stars in front of a large crowd at NDSS . The Mariners won the first and then lost the second and third before finding their touch again winning the fourth and fifth 26-24, 21-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-13 . Proceeds from the game were donated to EDAS (Everyone Deserves a Smile), who provide care packages to those in need around the Christmas season. The All-Stars consisted of a very talented group of former CIS and Mariner Alumni. On their roster will be Mark Yuen (right photo), Rafael Korkowski, Rowan Sentesy and Andrew Schopp (left photo). The League announced the 2007 conference All-Stars and four Mariners have been awarded 1st and second team status. Sarah Schermerhorn with 5 goals in league play earned a spot on the 1st team while Gillian Hardy, Heather Iverson Kyle phillips and Jesse Winter were 2nd team All-Stars. Complete list (pdf).

A solid finish for soccer

The women's team won both games this past weekend but it was not enough to make playoffs. A 3-1 win over Okanagan and a 2-1 win over Kwantlen left them in fifth place and just 2 points out of provincials. The Men's team defeated Okanagan 5-0 on Saturday and then lost 5-2 against Kwantlen on Sunday. The Men wrapped up their season with a 4wins , 6losses and 4 ties placing them 6th in the BCCAA and 7points out of a playoff spot.

Final home soccer games

The roadtrip to Prince George and Kamloops resulted in a win and a tie for our men ...not bad. Cameron Fagan in his first start as a Mariner and his parents in the stands scored the first, second, third and fourth goals. All four of the Mariners goals in the 4-1 victory. INCREDIBLE !!
The women managed only a tie against UNBC and lost to TRU.
