Courtenay Crucil has been successful in renewing her Millennium Scholarship for the third year. This National Excellence award is given to individuals who " demonstrate positive and verifiable service to the community, academic achievement, demonstrate capacity for leadership and ability "
Courtenay recorded 4 shutouts guarding the Mariners net this season with a 1.6 goals against average over 14 league games.
Her community involvement over the past few years have been quite varied. She has coached youth soccer, given preventative presentations on suicide awareness in highschoolsand taught some meditation workshops.
Courtenay is a very passionate advocate for local food initiatives, looking at sustainable living and is involved with the sustainability club (solutions) on campus. Congratulation Courtenay !!

Luke Couture won the U19 singles and mixed doubles events at the Island Open Jr Badminton Tournament on Nov 28-30 in Victoria. In the singles event Luke ran his opponent into the ground, defeating Angus MacDonald 21-17, 17-21, 21-12.

Luke partnered with Vivian Yan in mixed doubles to claim the title over Bryan Cassels and Ayaka Wakatsuk, with game scores of 19-21, 21-14, 21-11. Zack Yim was runner up in the consolation singles event and teamed up with Luke, placing 3rd in the doubles event.

This was a Badminton BC sactioned A event that will improve Luke's provincial ranking. Luke was the recipient of the 2008-09 Presidents scholarship for Badminton.

This Saturday @ 5pm and Sunday @ 2pm the Clark College Penguins from
Vancouver , WASH will play two exhibition games.
The penguins compete in the NWAACC and went 11-5 last season. NDN Bball story

In the second BCCAA Badminton tournament of the season the VIU Mariners placed third with the best performance coming from Mike Clarke and Cassie Larson in Mixed doubles. Now the team sets their sights on competing in Hawaii over the Xmas break. GO MARINERS !!

Men's basketball remains undefeated at 4-0 after two lopsided wins over Quest-U.
On Friday night the M's outscored Quest by 32 points (103-71) and Saturday afternoon there was a 20 point differential. The women had a similiar outcome registering wins of 60-36 and 78-42 to improve their record to 3-1.Read more...

A 60-36 and a 78-42 win over Quest University Kermodes improves their record to 3-1. The M's are 2nd in the BCCAA standings.
Brittany Knievel leads the league in rebounding averaging 10 a game while Katie Pearson in second in the assists category.

This past weekend was the BCCAA basketball season opener. VIU hosted UNBC in a back-to back series. On Friday night, VIU lost 52-48 and Brittany contributed 9 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists. In Saturday’s rematch, the game was played to a thrilling triple overtime 75-69 victory for the Mariners. Brittany produced the tying 3 pointer in regulation to send the teams into overtime.  Brittany scored 20 points in the game and hauled down 17 boards and also added 2 assists.

Brittany comes to VIU after playing at the University of Calgary last year.  She is extremely versatile being able to play inside and outside.  She has a nice shooting touch and great moves in the low post. She will be counted to provide the Mariners with big scoring and rebounding for throughout the year.

Two wins for the VIU Men's Basketball team was just what they needed, with the opening of the BCCAA season this Friday. Read more ..
The M's crushed the Douglas Royals 92-68 on Friday night and then did the same to the Northwest Indian College 94-56. Andrew Kaban (photo on left) led the way for VIU both days with 20 points Friday night and 19 points on Saturday. Read more ...
