Women's basketball adds talent

May 12th, 2009

VIU womens basketball is pleased to announce the commitments of Heather McCarthy, Alicia Grossi and Shayna Worthington.

Heather McCarthy is a 5'8 guard that comes to us from Dover Bay Secondary where she was a North Island All Star. Heather is a fantastic kid, terrific student and will fit nicely on our team. She is a good athlete and defender which the potential to make some big strides offensively.

Alicia Grossi is a 6'5 post from Point Grey High School In Vancouver. This past season she averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. Just her height alone is going to help us on the defensive end immediately. She is a very hard working person who wants to get better. She has tremendous upside and I am very excited that she is joining our program.

Shayna Worthington is a 6'1 post from the Island Champions, Claremont Spartans of Victoria. Shayna played in both the Island and provincial all star games and was a 2nd team all star at the AAA provincial championships where the team placed fourth. Shayna is a serious talent that I feel will be able to step in an contribute right away.
