VIU Basketball #1

January 23rd, 2011

Both VIU basketball teams are #1 in the standings ....with identical 10-1 records!!

Men's basketball headed out to Abbotsford this past weekend and came home with 2 convincing victories over scrappy CBC squad.

Friday the Mariners played a very clean game, played with great energy and shared the basketball, resulting in a 105-42 victory. Every player (that was healthy!) was able to play solid minutes and hit the scoresheet. Mike Wohlers shot the ball very well and played a solid all around game, finishing with 25. Patrick McCarty and Tyler Olsen also made an impact both scoring 15 points, and grabbing 10 and 12 boards respectively.STATS

Saturday afternoon was definately not as pretty as the night before, but the M's were able to walk away with a 83-55 win. CBC played with much more energy, but the Mariners were able to wear them out and run away in the second half. Once again, the minutes were shared and every player was able to contribute on the scoresheet. Jacob Thom was himself with 11 points, 9 boards, 7 assists and 8 steals.  Evan Verdel had a nice game finishing with 11, as did Bryan Tollbom who finished with 12 and 5 boards.STATS

Next up will be a trip to North Vancouver against a very solid Capilano squad.
