In another classic Camosun-VIU womens game, the Mariners were able to defeat their Island rivals 64-68 in Victoria.  Camosun came out firing, taking a 7-0 lead in the matter of seconds. The teams battled back and forth with Camosun leading 26-18 after the first quarter.  The second quarter was the exact opposite with neither team being able to score.  After an ugly second quarter Camosun led 33-21 at the half.  Camosun stretched its lead to 17 part way through the third quarter and just when VIU looked like they were down and out, they stormed back to take a 48-27 lead after 3 quarters on a 3 point shot by Richelle Rafnkjelson.  VIU led by as many as 9 points in the 4th quarter before a barrage of free throws by Camosun made the game close again.

"Im not happy with the way we came out to start the game, we played with no energy and made several silly mistakes.  If we want to win a provincial championship we have to play much better.  Again I though our defense kept us in the game while we were searching for our offense"

The Mariners finish the season with a 15-3 record, good for second place, one game behind the Capliano blues.  VIU's next game is in the semi-finals of the provincial tournament in Abbotsford versus the winner of Langara and UBCO.
