Wsoccer vs Vic

August 28th, 2011

Final UVic -4, VIU -0 on Sunday, August 28th @ UVIC

This game will air on Shaw TV in Nanaimo and Victoria on Tuesday, Aug 30th at 9pm and Wednesday, August 31st at 2pm !!

Emma Greig from Parksville opened the scoring for the Vikings in the 10th minute of play against a nervous Mariner's team, VIU almost tied the match minutes later when Emily Nicholson found Mariah Robinson all alone in front of the net, Robinson's shot beat the keeper but hit the post, Steph Dean and Jessica Burma also had good scoring  chances but shot wide. Greig would score her second of the match against a run of play on a counter attack in the 31st minute to make it 2-0 UVic at the half.

In the second half VIU made numerous subs that would take the flow away from their game and were punished in the 80th and 90th minutes, Emma Johannson, Kim Watson, Burma and Robinson had quality chances in the second half but the shots were denied by the keeper or blocked by defenders. Midfielder Caity Genereaux missed the match.

"After a nervous start we settled in nicely and could have come away at the half tied, I thought our two freshman players Jess Burma and Sam Rodgers were real good, we had some key players who were sick and against a top CIS program you need to be at your best, I really liked our compete level"

Next up for VIU is a game vs Castaway Premier, 6pm Wednesday August 31 in Victoria.
