Mariner women came into the game against UBCO needing a win or tie in Capilano/TRU match to qualify for BC's next weekend in Kelowna, VIU gave up a goal in the 7th minute of play to UBCO to go down 1-0, the rest of the first half was more of a midfield battle without any real chances for either team.

UBCO 1, VIU 0

VIU came out real strong in the second half and pinned the Heat in their own end for long stretches, the best scoring chance fell to Mariah Robinson, Emily Nicholson played a brilliant cross from the right wing that fell right to Robinson, with the keeper out of position she shot at an empty net but a flying defender came to the rescue for UBCO, VIU kept the pressure up and were unlucky on number of opportunities, UBCO would get their second in the 75th minute when a cross from the right side went in. Capilano and TRU would tie 1-1, that would qualify VIU for BC's

Final

UBCO 2, VIU 0

"We played our best soccer this year in the second half, we had enough grade A chances to score a bunch of goals, UBCO plays a different system than the rest of the league and I think we figured out a way to counter it in the second half"

VIU vs TRU Sunday @ Mariner Field

Having already secured a spot at BC's, VIU playing it's last home game and last home game for senior Steph Dean came out of the gate with a lot of pressure on TRU and were rewarded when Emma Johannson turned her defender and beat WolfPack keeper with a rocket to the top corner in the 17th minute, Shelby Walker made a real nice diving save just before the half to preserve a 1-0 lead for the Mariners.

Halftime

VIU 1, TRU 0

VIU came out in the second half and played some real nice possession soccer that created couple of quality chances for Caity Genereaux, TRU keeper made a real nice save on one and other deflected just wide, it would be back and forth until the 86th minute when TRU would get a break to tie the match at 1-1, VIU finished third in Pool B and will play second place in Pool A ( Kwantlen ) in quarter final play next Friday at BC's

Final

VIU 1, TRU 1

"It was very good game against a good team, it was a special day for Steph Dean and she played a great game, Steph has been one of our top players in the last 4-5 games, we were able to get all the players into game and they all played well, I thought backup keeper Kirbi McKie played real well, we are playing our best soccer of the year right now and looking forward to the BC's"
