It was all VIU this weekend on the Volleyball court with a clean sweep of the Capilano Blues.

The first women's match on Friday night was a marathon match that lasted about 2 hours, the Mariners in the end got the job done winning 3-2. Saturday was a different story with a solid 3-0 win.
In men's action , VIU appeared to cruise to victory in both matches 3-0, 3-1.

Milo Warren has been nominated for Pacwest player of the week !!
In the Friday night's match, MIlo was almost unstoppable with 17 kills in 3 sets against the Capilano Blues. HIs hitting percentage was a massive 82% efficiency and in the first set he hammered down 8 kills with only 1 error. He was a huge factor in both matches this weekend. He finshed the weekend withgreat numbers; 31 kills, 7 digs, 2 blocks and 2 aces. Milo continues to bring strong veteran leadership and over the past month of season this leadership has started to rub off on our entire team. Milo's incredible athletic ability makes him one of the most dominating players in the league and now that his consistancy has reached allstar levels he will be a huge impact player for the Mariners. With Milo and the Mariners having another strong weekend with 2 more wins their season record is now 9-1 and are holding down top spot in the PACWEST.

VIU Women's Volleyball Player of the week
This past weekend featured the Number 2 ranked CCAA team verses last weeks number 2 ranked CCAA team. The level of play was extremely fast paced and exciting for the VIU fans. Leanna Gildersleeve was a dominant player all weekend. In Fridays match Leanna recorded 19 kills, 1 block and 1 ace for a total of 21 offensive points. she also recorded 26 digs to lead all players in defensive points. The match saw the VIU Mariners facing match point several times but with some smart, experienced play from Leanna the team was able to win Fridays match in 5 sets. On Saturday the Mariners came back very strong and determined, knocking off the skilled Blues team in 3 straight sets. Leanna again showed leadership both offensively as well as defensively. Leanna tallied 9 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces for a total of 13 offensive points as well as 10 digs. Leanna is becoming the player she was a few years back when she lead her MacEwan team to a CCAA silver medal and was recognized as the player of the Match at the CCAA National Finals.
