VIU Mariners and the Vancouver Whitecaps Work Together to Promote Junior Soccer.

August 7th to 9th

The 9 local First Nations communities are bringing the Vancouver Whitecap players and coaches to Nanaimo and both VIU Women's and Men's soccer teams will be a big part of the activities during the three days.

Day One (August 7th) Martin Rennie (Whitecaps Head Coach) and Carl Valentine will all address the crowd at the Nanaimo Convention Center.

Day Two: This day starts with a Soccer Camp at Merle Logan Field for the 300 First Nation junior soccer players. The VIU players will be coaches at the camp with Whitecaps players assisting during the morning and afternoon sessions. In the evening Joe Cannon (Whitecaps starting goalie) and Goalie Coach will be leading an elite session for keepers only. That evening there will be a movie premier at Conference Center "The Jay Demerit Story". Jay is the starting center back for Caps and US National Team and the movie chronicles his development from tough beginnings.

Day Three: the 300 players will be placed on teams of 10 each to play in 7 A Side Tournament to be held at the Beban Park fields. The VIU Mariners will act as coaches for these teams. At 4pm the VIU women will play Salish All Stars, at 6pm VIU Men will play Salish All Stars. All Nanaimo Soccer fans are invited to come out to watch the matches.
