Saturday

Langara 1, VIU 0

Mariners needing results to get back in playoff picture played a very discipline Langara team on Saturday.
VIU was missing injured Jessica Burma and Jillian Kelly and in the  15th minute Rebecca Weiss went down with a knee injury. Mariners kept their poise and continued to attack but were unable to breakdown the Falcons defence. Rachel Jones had the best chance of the first half when she got in behind the defenders and walked around the keeper but was unable to get a shot off as the ball got stuck in her feet and defenders were able to get back and block the shot. The rest of the half neither team created anymore chances, the game remained scoreless at the half.

Second half started again with neither team creating any chances until the 60th minute when the Mariners were awarded a penalty shot, Mariah Robinson took the spot kick and the Langara keeper made a diving save, Rachel Jones almost got to the rebound which was cleared by the Falcons defender. Langara would get on the scoreboard five minutes later on their first real good chance of the match when a Falcons forward got by the VIU defence and calmly slotted a the ball past keeper Shelby Walker, this was the first goal given up by VIU in three matches. Mariners would give one last push to get the equalizer but were unable to get one behind Falcons goalie.

Sunday

VIU 0, Quest 0

VIU was playing a team that was sitting in fourth and last playoff spot,  came out strong and should have gone ahead in the 20th minute when a nifty Jessie Weninger pass sent Rachel Jones on a breakaway but her shot was stopped by the Quest goalie. Mariners would create a couple more chances but again were denied.

Mariners came out on fire in the second half and created chance after chance to take the lead, Emma Johansson had four quality chances the best being a breakaway which was stopped brilliantly by the Quest keeper. Rebecca Williams, Caity Genereaux would also have chances to break the deadlock. Shelby Walker made one great save in the 70th minute, in the 88th minute it looked like Mariners took the lead when a shot by Emily Nicholson went over the keeper but  landed in behind the net, it looked like the ball went through a small hole in the net.  Shelby Walker would earn her 5th shutout in 10 games.
