Home Opener Win!!

November 4th, 2012

VIU Mariners women's basketball team had a good victory over a very well coached, tough Camosun team in their home opener.  After getting the jitters out of the way in the first quarter, the M's settled down to take a 6 point lead at half,  and extended that lead to 17 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

"We certainly didn't play as well as we are capable but that was expecting being it was our home opener and with camosun being our opponent.  We managed to survive an ugly first quarter by being pretty solid defensively until we were able to put everything together.  I thought we played quite well in the 3rd quarter when we started to attack offensively.  It was a good start to our season as I think we are only going to get better as the season progresses.  We have a lot of new faces and people playing in new roles so it is going to take time to get the chemistry needed to be successful.  I am certainly encouraged by what I have seen so far, this is a great group that works very hard and plays for each other" Comments Bill McWhinnie VIU Women's Basketball Head Coach.
