Shane Hyde National Coach of the Year

March 6 2013 – The VIU Mariner’s Shane Hyde has been selected the 2013 CCAA Women’s Volleyball Coach of the Year.

“Shane has done a lot with Mariners over the past 12 years,” says Scott Gray, CCAA women’s volleyball convenor. “He’s obviously a quality coach who’s been able to maintain a team competing at the top level.”

During that time, Hyde won the 2008 CCAA Coaching Excellence Award and the VIU Mariners have earned a provincial medal every season, acquiring seven gold, 3 silver and two bronze.

Hyde plays a major role in the grass roots development of volleyball in B.C.; he runs leagues and clinics, trains summer games athletes, and has seen his players go on to represent Canada on the beach and senior women’s teams.

Other candidates for 2013 CCAA Women’s Volleyball Coach of the Year were Derrick Brooks of the MSVU Mystics, Shane Christopher of the Durham Lords, Éric Guérin of the Griffons de l’Outaouais, and Talbot Walton of the Red Deer Kings.

Hyde received the award Wednesday, March 6 at the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet at the 2013 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship presented by Viterra in Lloydminster, Alta. CCAA Coaches of the Year receive a customized ring provided by Jostens, the official ring supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.

The 2013 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship presented by Viterra take place March 7-9 at Lakeland College in Lloydminster, Alta.
