VIPL’s Upper Island ‘Storm’ Hire Franchise Technical Team

Vancouver Island, BC - The Steering Committee of the Upper Island “Storm” franchise of the Vancouver Island Premier League (VIPL) have selected a Technical Team to oversee the training and development of every soccer player and coach within the franchise.

Bill Merriman has agreed to be the Head Coach and Technical Director of the eight teams within the Storm franchise (U14, U15, U16, and U18 boys and girls) for the incoming 2013-14 season. Merriman has also assembled an excellent Technical Team to support the goals and strategies of the franchise. With 36 years of coaching throughout the BC area and on Vancouver Island, Merriman has demonstrated that he has the experience and expertise to provide VIPL Storm players and coaches with the training and direction they need to reach their highest potential, and to advance to the next level in their soccer development.

Merriman’s proposal submission for the position of Technical Director outlined a clear vision and mission statement for the Storm franchise to implement a franchise philosophy and identity, to build an organization based on player and coaching development, and to bridge the gaps to the next level of play. Merriman’s tenure as the Storm’s Technical Director will begin with developing a player and coaching curriculum for the franchise which will include technical skills development, strength and conditioning, and mental awareness. Merriman’s team will oversee player and coach evaluation and selection, and will be responsible for the ongoing improvement of players and coaches within the franchise.
