Kwantlen Eagles, who will be hosting Nationals this year travelled to Nanaimo to take on the hometown VIU Mariners, the visitors came out with strong play in the first 15 minutes but didn't create any real scoring chances. VIU would find it's game and take over the game, Kaylee Dodds playing against her former school would be at the forefront of those chances, she would go on to hit three crossbars and take six shots in the match.

The Eagles hot on the board midway through the first half when a lucky bounce found the dangerous Shanay Sangha, who calmly slotted the ball by helpless Mariners keeper Shelby Walker. Moira Brown had a breakaway for VIU but Eagles keeper made a spectacular diving save to too the ball wide.

In the second half VIU would continue to press the the Eagles forcing their keeper to make some spectacular saves on clear cut chance.  There would be controversy in the match when Kwantlen goalie came outside the  box to challenge Jessie Weninger who was on a breakaway, the rebound came out to Dodds, who was staring at the wide open net, her shot was handled outside the box by the keeper, this should have resulted in an automatic red card for the keeper but only a free kick was given on which Dodds would hit the crossbar.

Sunday vs Douglas was a must win game for VIU if they wanted to stay in the race for a playoff spot, Mariners took the game to the Royals and should have gone ahead couple of times, Dodds on a great feed from Brown was all alone but was denied by Royals keeper, Freshman Kimberly Cardwell getting her first start found herself in front of the open net on a rebound but her shot kissed went wide of the post, in the 36th minute on their 13th shot at the net in the first half VIU would find the back of the net, Jillian Kelly corner kick found the head of Zoe Grace, which forced the Royals keeper to make a save but the rebound was slotted in by Moira Brown for her first goal as a Mariner, the lead would stay at 1-0 at the half.

Second half VIU would get their second on a nice three way passing from Kelly, Carli Rey and Cardwell, Kelly would find herself all alone against the keeper and spectacularly chipped the keeper to seal the win, Douglas did have a 15 minute spell of pressure against VIU but the Mariners defense led by the dominating Zoe Grace, Becky Weiss, Walker, the ever steady Anne Picken and Sarah Meridith would up to the challenge.

"We played a real good game against Kwantlen and could have been up by a couple at halftime, their keeper made some real good saves, we out chanced  them by a wide margin, and limited them to 4 shots in the match, Shanay is a quality player, we lost her once in the game and she made us pay, against Douglas, the girls knew what was on the line so they came out strong and played a solid game, Douglas is a very good team and tough to play against, I thought Kim Cardwell played real well for her first start as a Mariner, Zoe Grace is becoming a real strong player for us, we moved her to center back from left back on Sunday and she didn't look out of place, Katie Rodgers was another player who was real solid for us all weekend, hopefully we'll have Samantha Rodgers and Jessica Burma back next week, they've only played limited minutes for us this year, they are two of our captains, with two top teams coming in next weekend in UBCO and TRU, we'll need to be at our best"
