ALYSSA WOLF PacWest athlete of the week

October 23rd, 2013

ALYSSA WOLF has been recognized as PACWEST Athlete of the Week!!

The VIU Mariners hosted a tired College of the Rockies squad playing their 3rd of 4 matches this weekend. After losing two straight to Camosun on Thursday and Friday, the Avalanche visited Nanaimo where VIU played host. On Saturday night, the match was very one sided in favor of the Mariners and a key factor for that was the play of Alyssa Wolf. Although Wolf was not able to show her dynamic offensive ability with her hitting because she was subbed out early, she made up for it with her explosive jump serving. Only playing parts of two sets each day, Wolf went on 6 straight service ace runs. On Saturday, before being subbed out to make way for valuable time for her teammates, Wolf managed to record 10 aces.
On Sunday she recorded another 9 aces in 2 half sets. In total Wolf recorded 19 aces, 4 digs, and 5 kills in 4 shortened sets. “If Alyssa would have remained in the match her numbers would have been doubled.” Stated coach Hyde.
The Mariners next opponents are the Capilano Blues on October 25 and 26.
