Action packed weekend for VIU

A winning weekend for VIU Athletics !! PHOTO GALLERY

Soccer teams earned 10 out of a possible 12 pts going undefeated vs Capilano and Langara. The women's team shutout Langara 2-0 and Capilano 4-0, while the Men's tied Langara 1-1 and defeated Cap 2-1.

Jillian Kelly, 4th year midfielder from Calgary, Alberta scored three goals on the weekend, helping secure 6 points for the Mariners. Saturday against Langara, she would score from just outside the 18 yards box to put the Mariners up 2-0. Sunday vs Capilano, Kelly help put the game out of reach with two fantastic goals, first was a shot from 25 yards out that found the top corner, the second goal, Kelly shot from top of 18 yard box into the corner of the net. With the two wins, the Mariners moved into a tie for second place in the PACWEST standings.

In the Men's match on Saturday vs Langara, the lone Mariner goal came off a beauty header from AJ Kambere !!
Andres Algarin scored both VIU goals vs Capilano on Sunday, one was a PK.

Another home weekend of games for VIU soccer coming up !! Saturday the Douglas Royals are in town, followed by the Kwantlen Eagles on Sunday.

Men's basketball won both their matches on the weekend.... VIU 100 Alumni 95
John Thompson led the way with 29 points, Chris Parker added 19 and Jerod Dorby with 17. For the alumni, Tyler Olsen played an outstanding game scoring 27 in a variety of ways.

The alumni women's basketball team was defeated by our current VIU Mariners 66-60

Both Volleyball teams had exhibition tournaments, women at home and men in Red Deer.
The Mariner men had a successful tournament going winning 3 matches  and losing just 1 !!
