Basketball home games !!

The VIU basketball teams are back on home court after two weekends on the road. Our men's team are undefeated at 5-0 and the #1 ranked team in Canada!! The women are 4-1, currently tied for 1st place in the provincial standings.
Games this weekend include the Langara Falcons Friday night and the Quest Kermodes Saturday afternoon.

Women's Basketball
Sara Simovic
 is a 3rd year guard from Nanaimo, BC. 

Sara led VIU to two road wins this past weekend.  On Friday, Sara had 13 points, 5 assists and 6 steals in a 77-44 win over Kwantlen.  On Saturday, Sara exploded for 31 points(including 7 3 pointers) 5 rebounds and 3 assists in a 80-49 win over CBC.

Men's Basketball
John Thompson

The VIU Mariners took to the mainland for their second consecutive weekend to face off versus the KPU Eagles and CBC Bearcats.

The Mariners received solid contributions from a large number of players. John Thompson (Tempe, Arizona) was a leader for the Mariners throughout the weekend.

The Mariners visited the Eagles Friday night and went on to a 116-48 win. In the win, John Thompson finished the game with 13 Points, 4 Assists, 4 Rebounds and 4 Steals in 15 minutes of play.

The next day the Mariners made the trip to Abbotsford to face off against the Bearcats. The Mariners went on to win 94-75 to improve their league record to 5-0. John Thompson was able to provide major contributions again with 35 Points, 8 Rebounds, 2 Assists and 4 steals.

"John was able to control the game and make good decisions for the team this past weekend. " said Mariners Assistant Coach Avneet Brar. " On Friday, John did his job and was a great teammate encouraging everyone when he wasn't on the floor. On Saturday, John was able to control the game by getting us into offence and attacking in transition."
