Mariner Weekend of Wins

It was a perfect weekend for the Mariners winning all the home basketball games and all the volleyball on the road. The only thing that was not won was the PANAGO Half-court half time shot ...A clean sweep for Basketball with a 104-71 win over CBC and a 116-57 win over KPU for the men, women went 80-51 over CBC and 70-44 over KPU. 
Volleyball teams went four matches without dropping a set to CBC.

PLAYERS of the week.

Women's basketballSienna had another outstanding weekend in leading VIU to two home wins.  On Friday, Sienna 19 points and 12 rebounds in a 81-50 win over CBC.  On Saturday, Sienna continued where she left off Friday scoring 26 points and adding 14 rebounds in a 70-44 win over Kwantlen.  Sienna continues to be a force on both ends of the floor and is a major reason why VIU sits at 8-1.

The Mariners started 2016 back on home court. On Friday night the Mariners hosted the CBC Bearcats. Josh Ross (Burlington,  Iowa) was a stat stuffer as he was able to contribute so much to the team in limited minutes. Josh finished the game with 18 points, 11 Rebounds, 5 Assists and 2 steals in 23 minutes of play as the Mariners defeated the Bearcats 104-71. 

 On Saturday, the Mariners played host to the KPU Eagles. Josh Ross led the Mariners again with 25 points(9/13 fg), 10 rebounds 3 assists and 3 steals in 20 minutes of play as the Mariners went on to defeat the Eagles 116-57.

 "Josh came in and did it all for us this weekend." Said Mariners assistant coach Avneet Brar. "regardless of the score of the game, Josh went out on the floor and played hard while getting his teammates involved" 

 The Mariners now move to 9-0 in league play and maintain their #1 CCAA national ranking. 

The Mariner’s 4th Year Left Side had one of his best weekends of the 2015-16 Season. The Mariner’s Left Side attacker was outstanding in Week 8, helping the Mariners to go undefeated against the Bearcats of the Columbia Bible College.

Zach put together 2 well-rounded matches over the weekend. He combined for 35 total offensive points, 9 digs and 4 blocks over the weekend. Friday nights match, Zach put together an excellent performance with 9 kills, 5 digs, 3 service aces and 3 blocks. On Saturday, Zach continued his strong play finishing with 11 kills, 4 digs, 8 service aces and a block. The Mariners started strong in their first weekend of second semester winning both matches in convincing fashion with two 3-0 victories.
