Mariners 7 for 8 wknd

This weekend at home the Men's volleyball team was dominate winning both matches versus UFV by a score of 3-0, women split winning 3-1 on Friday and losing 3-2 Saturday afternoon.

TYLAR TURNBULLThe Mariners captain and fifth year standout Tylar Turnbull displayed two dominating performances this past weekend.  Tylar provided a boost of energy on Friday night helping the Mariners to a four set victory over the visiting Cascades.  She led the team with 11 kills, 6 blocks and 1 ace.  Tylar continued her strong performance on Saturday with 18 kills, 3 blocks and 1 ace in a close five set loss to the Cascades.   
Tylar finished the weekend off with 29 kills, 9 blocks, and 2 aces.

 
JESSE BAZERGUI
Jesse Bazergui, The Mariner’s Captain and 5th Year Left Side had one of his best weekends of the 2015-16 Season. The Mariner’s Left Side attacker was outstanding in Week 9, helping the Mariners to go undefeated against the Cascades of the University of Fraser Valley. Jesse put together 2 well-rounded matches over the weekend. He combined for 39 total offensive points, 18 digs and 4 blocks over the weekend. Friday nights match, Jesse put together an excellent performance with 12 kills, 9 digs, 4 service aces and 1 block. On Saturday, Jesse continued his strong play finishing with 17 kills, 9 digs, 3 blocks and 2 service aces. The Mariners started strong in their second weekend of second semester winning both matches in convincing fashion with two 3-0 victories over UFV


On the road,  the basketball teams won all four games  .... Quest Friday and Langara Saturday. Our women cruised through both games while the men had their hands full, defeating Quest by only two buckets and going to OT against Langara.

Players of the week

JOHN THOMPSON
John Thompson (Tempe, Arizona) led the Mariners to 2 big road wins this past weekend. Both games were very close and John was able to make big plays to propel the Mariners to victory. 
Friday night the Mariners took on 2nd place Quest Kermodes. John finished the game with 19 points, 2 rebounds and 4 steals. John made big free throws down the stretch to help the Mariners. 
Saturday afternoon the Mariners defeated the Langara Falcons in overtime. With the Mariners trailing, John hit big shots to help tie the game and scored the eventual game winning basket. John finished with a stat line of 28 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. 
"John made big plays at the end of each game." Said Mariners assistant Avneet Brar. "he was able to attack switches on the offensive end of the floor and come up with some timely steals." 
The Mariners move to 11-0 in league play and will host the Capilano Blues and Douglas College Royals this coming weekend
