Ryan Thibault

March 31st, 2016

Everyone in Mariner Athletics is deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Ryan Thibault.  Ryan was an outstanding student-athlete at VIU who excelled at everything he did. As the starting setter for the Men’s Volleyball team he was the heart and soul of the program and led the team to Two Provincial Championships (2006 and 2007) and he was the tournament MVP both years. In 2007 he led the team to a silver medal at the CCAA National Championships.  He was the rookie of the year in 2006.  Ryan was also an outstanding student who never had a GPA below 3.5 and received an Arts and Science Diploma, a Recreation and Sport Management Diploma and a Bachelor of Tourism Management degree from VIU.  Mariner Athletics sends their condolences to Ryan’s wife (Leigh, also a VIU alumni) and to all of their families and relatives.  Ryan is one of the best role models to ever wear a VIU uniform. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Ryan’s 5th year tribute video has been put up on the Mariners web-site (video window, top righthand corner of the homepage). It provides an excellent reflection on his time as a VIU Mariner. VIDEO link
