2016 Men's Volleyball Recruits

The Mariners are extremely excited and proud to announce our 3 newest Athletes to VIU and the Men's Volleyball Program for the 2016-17 PACWEST season. Our newest Mariners bring a wide range of volleyball experience and outstanding individual skill sets.

Zach Deacon (R/S L/S), Matthew Graham (Libero) and Adam Newman (Setter).

Zachary Deacon comes to the Mariners after the completion of 2 seasons ...at Olds College in the ACAC under Head Coach Russ Ogden. Zach's recent club volleyball history at NAVC includes coaches Mark Maris, Missy Garska, and Ryan Flannigan.

The Mariners second recent signing has Matthew Graham coming to VIU. Matthew brings 2 excellent individual seasons in the PACWEST with the Capilano Blues. His on court leadership, PACWEST experience and outstanding volleyball IQ will help the Mariners in many ways this coming season. Special thanks to Emmanuel Denguessi and Drew Venables for their coaching of Matthew while at Capilano over the past 2 years.

Our most recent signing is Setter, Adam Newman from Calgary. Adam is coming to us with a excellent volleyball resume and we are very excited to have him join our Mariner volleyball family. Currently in grade 12 at Centennial High School, Adam's high school accolades include; Team captain from grade 10-12. MVP award in both grades 10 and 11. This season was selected to participate in Calgary Selects All star game, where he won an All-Star. He was nominated for the Calgary Booster Club Volleyball award - the Al Taylor Award where only one volleyball player per school is chosen in the city of Calgary.

U17: Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club (Canuck Dinos) (Coach: Ian Halliday) - Team Placed first at Best of the West, Alberta Provincials, and Nationals
U18: Canuck Stuff volleyball club (Canuck Black U18) (Coaches: HC-Jace Richards, Assistant coaches- Don Saxton, Rod Walsh)
