Soccer teams undefeated

September 11th, 2016

Good weekend on the road for the Mariners men's team.

Saturday's 2-0 win over the always strong Douglas Collage.

Both teams came out strong looking for the win. David Turkstra was called on early to make a big save for the Mariners and help give them that energy they fed off.

It was Victor Blasco that put the Mariners on the board in the first half with a well taken free kick. Victor scored his 2nd of the day in the 2nd half, a first class shot from 25 yards out the ball hit the underside of the crossbar and crossed the line behind the keeper.

Strong game played by Mateo Kostering on the back line and Shun Takano in the midfield .

Sunday was a totally different game against Langara Collage . The Falcons where a very physical team and the game was deffinetly not as entertaining soccer as Saturday.

Langara scored first on a miscue between a Mariners defender and goalkeeper David Turkstra .

The 2nd half the Mariners adjusted and played their game creating a number of chance's. But it was Victor Blasco that made a great run down the sideline beating a couple players then cut across the endline  beat another Falcon defender before slipping ball back to Shun Takano who made no mistake and gave the Mariners the tie that they more than deserved .

Colin Knight had a very good weekend in the midfield as well as Miguel Banting.

Was very promising to see the potential of this years Mariners ...  entertaining soccer was played.

Women's Soccer tie both matches.

Saturdays match against the defending PACWEST Provincial Champions the Douglas Royals saw 10 goals scored !! A hat trick was scored by first year Mariner Chloe Gummer.

Sunday's match vs Lanagar resulted in a 2-2 ties, VIU was up 1-0 at the half ... goal by Rachel Jones, took a 2-0 lead at start of second half on goal by Maddy Dawson,
Langara got one back on a PK and another in 86th to tie the game.
