Two MVBALL road wins versus COTR

January 8th, 2017

VIU Men's Volleyball returns from the long roady to Cranbrook with two wins !!
Friday night was a match for the ages as the Mariners dropped the first two sets to the College of the Rockies Avalanche with little fight at all. Going into the 3rd Set, 5th Year Middle Blocker, Wayne Woyciehouski put the Mariners on his back with a display of fire and passion that created a level of fight in this years team that had not been seen yet. With Wayne's leadership and the depth on the Mariners roster the team was able to make some substitutions and fight back and win in 5 sets. This Friday night match victory was the first Friday match win for the Mariner in 7 years at the College of the Rockies.
On Saturday, the Mariners put together a much more well rounded performance with solid offensive performances from Wayne Woyciehouski, Zach Grigg and Braydon Brouwer. The Mariners won the second match of the weekend 3-1 with a poor 3rd set, but rallied in the 4th set to win in convincing fashion. On the Defensive side of the court, 3rd Year Transfer Libero, Matt Graham played his best match as a Mariner since joining the team this season.
The unsung hero's of the weekend were 3rd yr setter, Jordan Davis, 3rd Year Left Side, Niall Cobbe and Rookie Middle Blocker, Ryan Evans as the 3 of them played instrumental roles in helping the Mariners pull off the 2 victories in Week 8 against a strong, well coached Avalanche team.
With the 2 victories in Week 8, the Mariners find themselves at 13-1 and in 1st place in the PACWEST. Thus far, the Mariners Men's Volleyball team is putting together an outstanding season and Coach Abe Avender couldn't be prouder of the effort and dedication each and every player has displayed so far this season.
