VIU Badminton had a strong weekend at the post secondary team tournament held at Langara College this weekend, finishing first overall.
5th year athlete Melissa Liew led the charge with a perfect record of 4 wins - 2 singles wins vs UBC-2 and SFU and then two mixed doubles wins vs UBC-1 and Langara. The mixed doubles victories were with partner Chris Wan who has just joined the team and also had a perfect 4-0 record (adding two men's doubles wins vs UBC-2 and SFU with partner James Qiu). James also partnered with Robert Foster for a win over Langara and a loss against UBC-1 in men's doubles.
Graydon Robb contributed three wins in men's singles over Langara, SFU and a come from behind win in a crucial match vs UBC-1. Helen Cheung and Darby Walker won their womens doubles over SFU and Helen took her singles vs UBC-1 while Darby brought home the W in her singles match against Langara. Christina Woo and Jessie Zheng added an important win for the team in women's doubles against UBC-2 while Christina and Robert took a close three gamer in Mixed doubles vs SFU.
The strong results bode well for athletes as we head toward provincials in February.
