Mariner Men go back to back 3-0

The Mariners came out strong after the Week 9 Bye to get two, 3-0 victories off the Bearcats of Colombia Bible College. The Mariners played two very well rounded matches with contributions from every one that entered the match. Coming off a Bye week it can difficult to get up to game speed, but the Mariners were able to find their game pace fairly quick on Friday night and this continued into Saturday. The outside attack was very efficient and played a big role in both victories.

The focus for the Week 10 matches was to limit errors and keep the Bearcats under pressure with tough serving. The Mariners served excellent in both matches with 16 total service aces and only 13 missed serves the entire weekend. With strong serving and the Mariners offense continuing to be difficult to manage, VIU came out of the weekend maintaining their first place position in the PACWEST with a record of 15-1.

The Mariners had some excellent individual performances from Jeff Webb, Niall Cobbe and Jared Parhar. The well rounded contributions from all the Mariners this weekend showed the depth and ability of this years team. VIU heads to Abbotsford to face the PACWEST's second place Cascades of the University of Fraser Valley in Week 11, which should be a great battle between two strong programs.

Women win both, but better on Saturday

On Friday the M's played with a little panic. Serve receive was off and way too many serves were missed. Comments Shane Hyde, Head Coach of the Women's Volleyball team. Players that stood out-Rosenlund, Wagner, and Andrea.

On Saturday the team played calm and aggressive. They wanted to fully dictate the match and they did. Serving was stronger and more accurate. Shelby Norman-Banks played great. The entire team was able to get into the match and they all played well!
