Dani Smith makes Team Canada

May 14th, 2017

Dani Smith made the 2017 National Indoor Women's Volleyball team after one of the largest selection camps ever. The selection camp wrapped up on May 12, with new head coach Marcello Abbondanza assigning 24 players to the roster. Dani has been a part of the national team system since 2012, and plays some professional volleyball overseas.

Dani enjoyed a five year career with the Vancouver Island University Mariners which was highlighted by the team winning the 2012 CCAA National Championship at home. She was described by the CCAA as "the backbone of the Mariners' offence". Not only was she a two-time CCAA All-Canadian (2012, 2013), but she was also a first-team all-star when the Mariners captured the 2012 CCAA national title on home court.

The upcoming season for Team Canada will include FIVB World Grand Prix - one of the premier international tournaments for women’s volleyball. It will take place at the Richmond Oval, in Richmond, BC from July 21 to July 23. The team will also compete in a Pan Am Cup in Peru this June and the NORCECA Continental Championship (Trinidad) in October.

From June 12-14 they will train/play in Anaheim with the U.S. women’s team .

Good Luck Dani !!
