The first VIU Mariner home soccer games provided some very entertaining matches. On Saturday the Mariner women were scored on early by the Langara Falcons, but tied it up early in the second half, with Karen Battie getting the VIU goal (stats). Numerous chance by the M's were unable to find the back of the net, which was not the case in the men's game. VIU went on to dominate the Falcons winning 7-0 (stats).

Douglas Royals defeated the Mariner Women's team on Sunday afternoon 3-0 (stats). The VIU coaching staff was pleased with the response from the team in the second half, will be looking to improve on a few things this week in training. The match of the weekend had to be the men's battle with the Royals. The Rivalry continues and on this day the Mariners were magic, after going down 1-0, two spectacular goals .... one from Chris Merriman to tie and Jamie Taylor for the win. (stats)


 Jordan Degraaf worked very hard attacking and defending, played two complete games, scored twice in the Langara match and set up another big goal in the Douglas game. Head Coach Bill Merriman says "It's great to have him back at VIU, showing leadership as a team player."
