Hosting Golf

September 17th, 2017

The Mariner's are hosting the second PACWEST golf tournament of the season at Morningstar this weekend. After a road trip to Kelowna last weekend, the M's will be looking to move up in the standings with the home course advantage. Top Mariner golfers from last weekend included Taylor Henderson and Wyatt Brook both shooting a two day total of 149, which placed them 12th. On the women's side Victoria Ross was 6th. Overall the Mariner men finished tied for 4th while the women's squad was 3rd.

Coach Kevin Oates thought it was a good start for a young team. Jacob Bland has played in the most PACWEST tournaments on our team and this was his fifth event.  Second round 298 was 10 shots better than round one.  Lots of learning and lots of experience gained by all players.  Good showing by Taylor and Wyatt with scores of 149 (5 over par) each.  As a rookie Wyatt showed great poise and a hot putter and should be able to build off a great start.

Girls team needed a full tournament to shake the nerves.  An entire team of rookies will make for a difficult season.  With one tournament under our belts - look for a huge improvement at home this weekend at Morningstar.

Wyatt first rookie to lead a team in scoring since Morgan in 2012.

Wyatt lead all VIU members with 8 birdies for the weekend.

Tony set new team record for greens hit in regulation for all Mariners with 30 (85%).

Victoria with biggest improvement from round 1 to round 2 with 9 stroke improvement.
