Mariner Soccer Update

The Mariner soccer teams travelled to the mainland for games against Quest U on Saturday and then Capilano U on Sunday. All went well in Squamish versus the Quest Kermodes, with two victories. In North Van a tie for the women and a loss for the men.

In the Saturday women's game Zoe Grace opened the scoring at the 8 minute mark, followed by Chloe Gummer midway through the first. Quest got one back near the end of the half. Chloe Gummer scored her second of the game and the game winner  late in the match. Sundays game in North Vancouver was a scoreless game, with Alex DeMille in goal earning the shutout. 

"Very happy at how the squad handled the weekend. We looked dangerous in both games and pleased to record a clean sheet. Four points on the road was well earned and each day were improving." remarks the coahing staff.

"Saturday we played well against a very hard working Quest soccer team.  We had a lot of pressure but they defended well and were hard to break down."   Scoring on PK's Shun Takano and Jordan De Graaf. Final score VIU 2 Quest 0

"Today was a very entertaining game as expected, I was happy with the way we moved the ball and played some very creative soccer, unfortunately we didn't capitalize on our possesion. Cap scored two goals late in the 2nd half. Two lapses in marking cost us our first loss of the season." explains Bill Merriman Head Coach of the VIU Mariner men's soccer program. 

Another weekend on the road for the soccer teams, will see the Mariners face Langara then Douglas
