Week 4 Soccer Recap

October 1st, 2017

A much needed and well deserved weekend of rest is coming for the Mariner soccer teams. Both team had successful performances last weekend against Quest and Capilano. On Saturday VIU shutout Quest in both games 4-0 for the women and 2-0 for the men. Sunday in Ladysmith the Mariner women went down 2-0, but rookie sensation Shea Battie scored twice within 5 minutes to even it up. VIU went up 3-2 on a Katie Rodgers goal but in the dying seconds Cap tied it up on a corner kick.David Turkstra recorded another shut out Sunday vs Capilano and goals came from Jamie Taylor and Jordan De Graaf.

"Saturday was so important for us. To keep possession especially after a turnover is something we have been working on. Not only were we much better in that department but we created chance after chance. A clean sheet gives us a huge boost too."  On Sunday in the first half we had some issues - Once we addressed that the players performed incredible and were devastated to concede so late - but credit to Cap they never lost hope. Overall the weekend was full of positives and I am very proud of the team." Kevin Lindo, VIU Women's soccer coach.

Currently the Men are in 1st play in the PACWEST standings with a 6-1-1 record while the women are in second, only a three points out of first with a 2-2-4 record.

Congratulation to Shun Takano and Moira Brown, both named PACWEST Athletes of the week
