October 29th, 2017

The VIU Mariners are PACWEST bronze medalists after a 1-0 victory in penalty kicks on Saturday night over the Langara Falcons.

Both teams played excellent defence through the first 90 minutes not allowing many great opportunities for the offence. Mariners’ keeper Zoe Grace made two saves in regulation while the Falcons used both Sierra Grieco and Sydney Bell who combined to make five saves.

The game was forced to a penalty kick round and the Mariners scored three times to seal the victory getting goals from Rachel Jones, Shea Battie and Moira Brown.

Grace was terrific in the win and was named the Player of the Game.

"The ladies thoroughly deserved to win the shootout and take home the bronze. It's been an exciting journey this season and I'm so happy the players got to end with a win... they really earned it. Next year we look to build on this and the hard work starts immediately" Comments Head WSOC Coach Kevin Lindo
