MARINERS MEN defeating the PACWEST Title

The “piece de resistance” is the men’s PACWEST basketball gold medal game on Saturday as the top seeded VIU Mariners face the third seeded Douglas Royals at 8:00pm. The Mariners are trying to become the first team to win four straight PACWEST titles since Vancouver City College won seven in a row from 1973-1980. They are making an unprecedented 10th straight appearance in the gold medal game. As a matter of fact the last time the Mariners didn’t appear in this game was in 2008, which was the last time the Royals won gold.

On Friday March 3, 2017 on the campus of Quest University the top seeded Mariners defeated the Royals 86-71 in the semi-final. Usama Zaid was named player of the game.




A 58-57 heartbreaking loss in the semi's to the Capilano blues has the Mariner Women's basketball team  playing for bronze on Saturday at 1pm.

Emily Clarke and her impressive game with 18 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and eight steals. She was named the player of the game. In all the Mariners shot 38% from the field.


The Mariners advanced to the semi-finals with a win over the Quest Kermodes. They clipped the Kermodes 57-47 to move on.

The Mariners shot 33% from the field and saw Danielle Vanbergen catch fire from downtown hitting for of nine shots, finished with 15 points and was named player of the game. Emma Platner quarterbacked the offence and was outstanding with 14 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Emily Clarke chipped in with nine points and 11 rebounds.
