Soccer Recap

September 9th, 2018

Mariners first weekend of PACWEST soccer action was on the road.

Women's Recap

Saturday, Sept 8th the Women's soccer team faced Capilano Blues, dominating the first, Justine McMahon scored for VIU in the 24th minute. The second half was a different story, Capilano pushed forward and scored in the 50th to tie the game. Final score 1-1.
"Our first game in Capilano gave us a tough lesson.  The first half the players were excellent, probably the best I have seen the team play.  In terms of style and braveness in possession it was great to see.  We scored a superb well deserved goal.  In the second half Capilano came out extremely intense and we couldn’t handle it.  Credit it to them.  Disappointed not winning but it could have been worse!" Comments Head Coach Kevin Lindo

Sunday, Sept 9th the Mariners were up against the Langara Falcons. A game that ended in a 0-0 draw.
"we asked the team to create more clear goal scoring chances and that’s exactly what they did – 15 shots on target hitting the woodwork 3 times.  It was tough conditions, on a tight field but our players did almost everything but score!  I am very proud of the players this weekend.  Its unfortunate not to get a win but very pleased with the performances overall" says Kevin Lindo.

Men's Recap
It was all Capilano Blues, they scored early and never let up. Mariners recorded only 2 shots on net. Final score 4-0.

Sunday's game was a much better result for the Mariners with Hussein Behery scoring a hatty (3 goals). Back and forth the scoring went, right until the 90th minute when Hussein scored one of his goals to tie it 4-4.
