Mariner Volleyball undefeated !!

October 29th, 2018

Impressive start to the 2018-19 PACWEST season for the Mariner Volleyball programs, both 6-0 in league play.

A roadtrip to Cranbrook to play the College of the Rockies last weekend, saw the Mariners drop only one game. Women won both 3-0 while the Men went 3-1 and 3-0. This weekend they will face the Capilano University College Blues on another roadtrip, this one not so far.

The Mariners Women's team has been recognized with the #1 CCAA National ranking this week, and the Mariner Men are not far behind with a #3 ranking

Week 3 of the PACWEST vb regular season was played in Cranbrook vs the Avalanche of the College of the Rockies. The Mariners proved to traveled well and came away with convincing 3-1 and 3-0 wins on Friday and Saturday respectively. "The Mariners main focus for the weekend was the put the Avalanche in trouble with relentless serve pressure to allow for our block defense to dictate the match. It is a difficult place to play with their lively home crowd and the long bus ride, so I was very happy to see our performance this past weekend", said Head Coach, Abe Avender.

The guys put together a very sound performance on Friday with a couple mental errors, but overall played quite well. The COTR Player of the game on Friday was Keal Prince. On Saturday, VIU came out very strong and dictated a lot of the points early in the match. "It was impressive to see our ability to play our really strong block defense which allowed our offence to find a lot of different players in many different ways". Comments Head Coach Dr Abe Avender. The Player of the Game on Saturday was Braydon Brouwer whom had a excellent well rounded match and weekend. The Mariners will take their 6-0 record to Capilano University in Week 4 and hope to keep their strong early season play going. Photo courtesy Northfield Photography
