campVIU and Mariners In Training Camps

COVID-19 Update  June 15th

campVIU and Mariners in Training are excited to announce that we will be moving ahead with 2020 summer camps starting at the end of June following the advice and guidelines as laid out in Phase 2 of BC's Restart Plan. This phase started on May 19 and includes recreation and sports. Given the current circumstances, we have made a number of significant revisions to our programming to align with the BC Ministry of Health Guidance for Child Care Settings. As a result, campVIU programs have been restructured to utilize smaller cohorts, a greater number of outdoor activities and sanitizing protocols.

The following are some key changes for campVIU and Mariners in Training - please read them carefully to ensure you fully understand the changes for your child’s health and safety:

  • campVIU and Mariners in Training camps will have a reduced maximum capacity and participants will be sub-divided into smaller groups.

  • Additional waivers will be available soon and will require emergency contact information and request that you outline your child's “social bubble”.

  • With increased outdoor activities, please ensure your child has sunscreen, a water bottle and appropriate layers for all days of camp.

While camp may look a little different this summer, campers will experience the same fun, excitement and adventure of previous years. Registration is currently open for all camps and an FAQ page has been added to the campVIU website for further information regarding the measures we are implementing to keep your children and our staff safe and healthy.

Note: Camps are subject to change due to BC Ministry of Health Guidelines. You will be notified of any impact this may have on you or your child.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate these challenging times and work to provide a positive experience for campers this summer.

If, at any time after registering, you do not wish to continue with your existing registration for health and safety reasons, we will be happy to provide a refund.

Note: Refunds will be for the full amount of the camp less a 6.25% administrative fee that is automatically charged by the registration service provider.

Please visit the campVIU Important Changes document for details on our response to the current situation. We are excited to see you soon and will be providing additional information in the near future.

For more information and complete camp details, please check out the brochure below and information throughout the campVIU tabs. If you have any questions, concerns or other inquiries, please contact us at camp@viu.ca

COVID-19 Update – May 26th

We hope that you and your families are safe and healthy.

campVIU wishes to provide updates to your registration as restrictions continuously and quickly change. We want to ensure you that campVIU is working hard within health and safety recommendations set by the government to provide the best and safest experience for you and your family if deemed applicable to operate.

While we are looking at various options for programming, at this point in time, we are still uncertain about how camps will proceed and if it is safe to proceed.

We can assure you that, when making camp decisions, we take the health and safety of our campers and staff very seriously. We hope to provide an environment that is safe as well as fun for everyone.

In the meantime, we thank you again for your patient and understanding. To serve our community the best during this time and keep families active, we have launched the virtual campVIU #ActiveAtHome Challenge. This family-friendly series is posted every Tuesday and Thursday on the VIU Mariners, TwitterInstagram, and Facebook, as well as on the campVIU Youtube page and website.

Thank you to everyone - stay safe, stay positive, stay active.
