This is a fun and exciting day of introductory white water river kayaking.  Over the course of the day we cover the following topics and skills: how to fit a river kayak, how to outfit the kayak, how to do a wet exit, basic strokes, safety considerations, river feature identification and running moving water in a river kayak.  We also suggest that you register for our kayak rolling event to get the most out of this day.

This program is a guided hike into a section of the Juan de Fuca Trail Provincial Park. This activity explores a section of trail that has big beaches, waterfalls, suspension bridge, and massive old-growth forests. We generally spend the day hiking and exploring the area around Sombrio Beach and cover approximately 5 to 7kms of the trail. The trail can be steep in sections and is always wet and very muddy. This hike is suitable for fit beginners and intermediate hikers.

This one-day session is designed as an introduction to sea kayaking.  Over the course of the day students learn basic sea kayaking techniques. Students learn how to prepare for a sea kayak day trip, how to enter and exit a kayak, and some basic strokes.  The rest of the day is spent improving upon and learning new skills, paddling, and exploring the ocean.

This trip is a guided day hike up to Christie Falls. Christie waterfall is located just outside the town of Ladysmith and is accessed through a rough trail network.  The trail is steep in spots and the weather could be challenging, so please be prepared.

This one-day session is designed as an introduction to the popular new sport of standup paddleboarding (SUP).  Over the course of the activity, students learn basic SUP paddling techniques. Students learn how to prepare for a SUP day trip, how to get on and standup on the board, and basic strokes.

Horne Lake Caves

The caving adventure is designed as an introduction to cave exploration. Students are guided through three or four different caves within Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park.  Students can expect to do some easy climbing, and wiggling through tight spaces. These caves have incredible features to explore including an underground waterfall.

Tofino

This is a fun and exciting day of surf instruction and surfing in the Tofino area. While on the beach students are given a pre-trip information session covering the following topics: surf formation, surfing hazards, personal hazards, and a how to surf lesson.  After the information session students then spend the rest of the day surfing. 

 

Hiking

This program is a guided hike into the beautiful area of Cowichan River Provincial Park. This activity requires students to hike for up to 3 hours on relatively easy to moderate trails, with some steep sections going both up and down. The Cowichan River hike is a beautiful experience with interesting geology and ecology.

 

Snowshoe or Hiking

Forbidden Plateau

Snowshoe or Hiking Infomation

 

 

This is a day trip to the Mt. Washington Alpine Resort or Forbidden Plateau area to experience backcountry snowshoeing or hiking depending on the weather.  The trip leaves from the resort’s base area or trailhead and explores the local area and trails of Mt. Washington, neighboring Strathcona Provincial Park, or the Forbidden Plateau area.
