VIU basketball teams look to return to the top of the standings
NANAIMO - VIU's basketball teams have a clear view of the path back to the PACWEST championship with the release of the 2025-26 conference schedule.
The Mariners get their longest road trip of the regular season out of the way in the first week of play with a trip to the BC Interior to play the Okanagan Coyotes on October 17 and 18.
Basketball fans get to see the Mariners on home court for the first time this season on the evening of Saturday, November 1 as the Langara Falcons come to town. The same two teams battle again the following afternoon in the lone Sunday matchup on VIU's basketball schedule.
The Mariners finish off the regular season at home on Basketball Alumni Weekend: February 20 and 21 against the Douglas Royals.
VIU season at a glance
- Twenty-four games: 12 at home and 12 on the road
- Four games against each PACWEST opponent: Douglas Royals, Capilano Blues, CBC Bearcats, Camosun Chargers, Okanagan Coyotes, and Langara Falcons. Matchups are evenly split between road and home games
- All VIU home games take place at the VIU Gymnasium (Building 190) on VIU's Nanaimo campus
- Friday home game days feature a women's game at 6 pm followed by a men's game at 8 pm
- On Saturday home game days, games are at 1 pm and 3 pm
- *Exceptions: Saturday, November 1 home opener is at 5 pm and 7 pm. Sunday, November 2 games are at 12 pm and 2 pm. When the Okanagan Coyotes come to town, Friday, February 6 games are at 5 pm and 7pm and Saturday, February 7 games are scheduled for 11 am and 1 pm

The top six women's teams and the top six men's teams advance to the 2026 PACWEST Basketball Championships, hosted by Camosun College on March 5-7. The top two seeds advance directly to the conference semifinals.
Conference champions advance to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association's national championships, March 18-21, 2026. The PACWEST has an extra wildcard berth to the women's championship, hosted by Dawson College (Montreal, QC). As VIU is hosting the men's championship, the Mariners have an automatic host bid and will be joined by a second PACWEST team.
