Recap courtesy the PACWEST
The Mariners dominated on Friday afternoon showing why they are one of the premier teams in the country with an impressive 14-point win over the Blues.
In the first quarter, the Mariners set the tone outscoring the Blues 25-18 showing off their game speed as they opened up scoring lanes and found easy baskets with their ball movement. They continued to pour it on offensively and were equally impressive on the defensive end contesting every single time the Blues came down the floor. Four of their five starters scored at least 12 points led by Winston Cole and his 21 points. Ryan Bastian ran the offence to near perfection with 20 points and eight rebounds and was named the Player of the Game. As a team they shot 48% and 85% from the free throw line on 27 attempts.
Defensively they were fast and swarmed the Blues ball handlers not allowing them to get into a flow. They shot 45% but nothing was easy, Kash Lang led them with 13 points and Zach Klim added 12. The Blues starters got into foul trouble early on which affected their offensive production.
With the win the Mariners will play for PACWEST gold on Saturday night at 8:00pm. The Blues will battle for bronze at 3:00pm on Saturday.
