NANAIMO - On a windy day in the Harbour City, the winds weren't blowing VIU's way as the Mariners dropped a 1-0 decision to the visiting Capilano Blues.
With the loss, VIU's record drops to 5-1 at the halfway point of the season but the Mariners still hold on to top spot in the PACWEST conference.
The Mariners outshot the Blues 16-3 (5-2 on target) over the game, but the Blues broke the deadlock in the 76th minute as Sophie Pather fired a long high shot from the left wing over VIU goalkeeper Brooke Ingram for the winning goal. Ingram's record dropped to 2-1 on the season.
VIU's Jada Kamerman, who had plenty of dangerous runs throughout the game and was credited with four shot attempts, was named Country Club Dairy Queen Player of the Game.
