The Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners (Pacific Western Athletic Association Champions) are still in the hunt for a gold medal at the 2025 CCAA Women's Soccer National Championship.
With a second-half goal, the Mariners got by the host Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Queens (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Bronze Medal winners) 1-0, advancing to the semi-finals.
The VIU Mariners controlled the ball in the opening minutes but couldn't beat Queens fifth-year goalkeeper Jessie Stewart.
Early in the second half, the RDP Queens nearly got on the board, but Sein Furuyama headed the ball just wide of VIU's net guarded by Kaiden Thorpe.
The Mariners broke the tie in the 69th minute. VIU's second-year midfielder Jada Kamerman scored high on the right side past Stewart. VIU's defence remained strong throughout the game and held the Queens' attackers off the scoresheet.
