RED DEER, AB - The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Assocation (CCAA) semifinal between Les Aigles du Ahuntic and the VIU Mariners lived up to its billing as one of the games of tournament as the Quebec champions moved ahead with an 86th-minute goal to defeat the Mariners 1-0.
Ahuntsic pressed with incredible speed throughout the first half but the Mariners defence held steady throughout. The Mariners came on in the second half with more pressure but were unable to get clean looks or shots on the Ahuntsic net.
With five minutes to go, les Aigles forced a turnover in the midfield and fed a ball through to Eliane Alvaro. She chipped a shot through two VIU defenders and over the head of goalkeeper Kaiden Thorpe for the only goal of the game.

Mariners defender Mary Nicholls, who was a rock in the defensive line all game and tasked repeatedly with launching long attacks towards the Ahuntsic net, was named VIU's player of the game. Alvaro earned the player of the game award for Ahuntsic.
