It was a dominating performance on the soccer pitch in 2025 from Jada Kamerman of the VIU Mariners.
In 11 games played this past season, the Nanaimo native led this high-octane offence scoring seven of the team's 34 goals and collected countless assists. Her play on the pitch set the tone for the eventual Conference champions every time she tied up her cleats. Her play in the offensive zone drew the opposition's attention and with her keen pitch awareness, Kamerman opened the middle of the field and showed her talent to pass the ball into tight windows giving her teammates the opportunity to score. Her consistent pressure and pace of play kept the opposition's defenders on their heels which also opened lanes for her teammates.
As mentioned above her unselfish play distributing the ball made her the most dangerous player on the pitch helping the Mariners offence to account for six players in the PACWEST's Top 10 in scoring.

Her performance over the course of the regular season allowed her to be named the PACWEST Player of the Year and she was named the championship tournament Most Valuable Player following the gold medal game in which she scored both goals in a 2-0 victory.
The PACWEST Male and Female Player of the Year awards are voted on by each PACWEST school. Men's volleyball player Dylan Annala from the College of the Rockies Avalanche won this year's Male Player of the Year Award Across All Sports.
History: Kamerman is the first VIU soccer player to win the conference Female Athlete of the Year award and the first soccer player to win this award since TRU's Alanna Bekkering in 2014.
VIU Athletic Director and former Mariners volleyball player Danielle Hyde won the first two conference athlete of the year awards in 2000 and 2001 and basketball star Harriette Mackenzie was the most recent VIU winner in 2023. Before Mackenzie, VIU volleyball players won the award six seasons in a row: Tylar Turnbull (2016), Megan Rosenlund (2017), Mikayla Wagner (2018), Karoline Tormena (2019 and 2020), and Jane Lytvynenko (2022). There was no award in 2021 as the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
