2024-25 schedule released for the defending PACWEST champions & CCAA silver medallists

NANAIMO, B.C. - VIU women's volleyball kicks off the 2024-25 with the longest road trip of the regular season and aims to return to the top of the PACWEST podium on home court.

The PACWEST (Pacific Western Athletic Association) 2024-25 women's volleyball schedule, released today, features VIU starting the season on the road versus the College of The Rockies Avalanche in Cranbrook--an 850-kilometre drive each way--on October 18 and 19. The Mariners will face the Capilano Blues, last year's PACWEST silver medallists, in VIU's home opening weekend on November 1 (6 p.m.) and November 2 (1 p.m.) at the VIU Gym.

The Mariners, defending conference champions, will play 20 matches, split evenly between home and road games versus Douglas College, Capilano University, Camosun College, College of the Rockies, and Columbia Bible College.

Home Games

  • November 1 & 2 vs Capilano Blues
  • November 15 & 16 vs CBC Bearcats
  • November 22 & 23 vs Douglas Royals
  • January 10 & 11 vs Camosun Chargers (*Island Rivalry)
  • January 30 & 31 vs COTR Avalanche (*Alumni Weekend)

Road Games

  • October 18 & 19 at COTR Avalanche
  • October 25 & 26 at Camosun Chargers
  • January 17 & 18 at CBC Bearcats
  • February 7 & 8 at Douglas Royals
  • February 14 & 15 at Capilano Blues

VIU has been named host of the 2024-25 PACWEST Volleyball Championships, a 'final four' tournament for the men's and women's brackets. All games will take place at the VIU Gym on February 21 and 22. The conference champion will qualify for the 2025 CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship at Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario, March 5-8. The PACWEST does not have a wild card berth this year.

The Mariners have been incredibly successful in national tournaments in recent years, including a silver medal last season, a fourth-place finish in 2023, and four consecutive gold medals from 2018-2022.

Schedule Notes

  • Each team will play the other teams four times: twice at home and twice on the road.
  • Home games: all Friday games begin at 6 p.m. and all Saturday games begin at 1 p.m. with the men's matches to follow. One game day is on Thursday: a 6 p.m. start versus COTR on January 30.
  • All games will be streamed live via SportsCanada.tv through each athletic department's YouTube page.
