Mariners rebound after dropping the first set to Assiniboine College to take their CCAA quarterfinal 3-1

The opening quarterfinal at the CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship saw the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners defeat the Assiniboine Cougars in four sets (20-25, 25-19, 25-9, 25-22). After dropping the opening set, VIU responded with strong offensive pressure and disciplined defence to take control of the match, highlighted by a dominant third set.
The Mariners were led offensively by CCAA All-Canadian outside hitter Grace Brisebois, who recorded 15 kills, five service aces, and six digs in an all-around performance. Setter Edan Wade efficiently ran the offence, finishing with 31 assists.
Third-year libero Jordy Exner anchored the Mariners' defence and passing game, collecting 18 digs to earn the VIU Player of the Game honours.
The Cougars were led by Payton McNish, who recorded eight kills and seven digs to earn the ACC Player of the Game award. Setter Tyra Lasuik contributed 22 assists, while Jordyn Bradbury added 15 digs in a strong defensive effort.
Assiniboine College will move to the bronze quarterfinal on Thursday at 12 p.m., while VIU advances to the national semifinal scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m.
