NORTH VANCOUVER - Down a player and down two goals with time ticking away, the Mariners would not quit. They were rewarded with their first point of the season following a 2-2 tie on the road at Capilano University.
The host Blues scored in the 39th and 55th minutes to earn their two goal advantage. The path to a Mariners comeback was make tougher thanks to a 60th-minute red card to VIU goalkeeper Brian Murray following a collision with a Blues player.
However, the Mariners kept at it and were rewarded when striker Brian Bland bounced a rocket of a shot into the Blues net in the 81st minute. Six minutes later, the Mariners converged on the Blues net as the ball was sent from the left post to the right post and a sliding Maxwell Dadzie knocked it in (while colliding with the post in the progress).
VIU goalkeeper Marko Ilich earned the tie and a clean sheet through his 30 minutes of action.
