The VIU Mariners opened their tournament with a straight-sets victory over the STU Tommies at the 2026 CCAA Men's Volleyball National Championship Wednesday, winning 27-25, 25-17, 25-14 in a strong three-set performance.

The opening set was tightly contested, with both teams trading points throughout. The Tommies pushed the Mariners deep into extra points, but VIU held their composure late to secure the 27-25 win and take the early momentum.

VIU carried that energy into the second set, finding their rhythm offensively while limiting STU's scoring opportunities. The Mariners controlled much of the play to claim a 25-17 victory and move within one set of the match.

The third set saw VIU take full control, using strong serving and consistent pressure at the net to pull away and close out the match 25-14, completing the sweep.
