NORTH VANCOUVER - A four-goal first half gave the Mariners a commanding lead over Capilano on the way to VIU's third win in three games to open the 2025 PACWEST season.
The Mariners appeared to feel at home on Lillooet Park's grass turf in their first road game of the season. VIU scored three goals in less than four minutes, beginning with Mary Huggill's first PACWEST goal in the 25th minute. Courtney Ingram and Emma Thornton added goals before the 30-minute mark and Ingram scored her second of the game five minutes from the half.
After the Blues got on the board in the 50th minute, VIU midfielder Jada Kamerman scored on a blistering shot from the right wing two minutes later. The Blues answered back with another goal of their own two minutes later, but the Mariners saw out the rest of the game to complete the victory.
VIU goalkeeper Brooke Ingram went the distance to record the win while Thornton was named VIU's player of the game.
