Jada Kamerman, Mary Huggill, and Bobbie Taylor headline a VIU-heavy 2025 PACWEST women's soccer all-star class
NANAIMO - VIU Mariners women's soccer was a dominant team in PACWEST play and it was reflected in conference all-star voting.
The PACWEST conference released its 2025 soccer all-star results today and all three major awards were won by Mariners.
Nanaimo's Jada Kamerman was voted PACWEST Women's Soccer Player of the Year for an outstanding first season with the Mariners. Returning to Nanaimo after spending the 2023-24 season with Tarleton State University (NCAA Division 1), Jade established herself as one of the quickest players in the conference and wowed fans with her agility in every game. Jada tied for the conference lead in goals and led the Mariners in assists and shots.
Canmore, AB midfielder Mary Huggill was voted PACWEST Rookie of the Year. Mary was put into the starting lineup in the second game of the season and didn't give up her spot as a starter throughout the rest of the season. She dictated pace in the midfield, started up-field attacks with accuracy, won plenty of duels, and has scored three goals (seventh in the PACWEST).
Head coach Bobbie Taylor claimed the PACWEST women's soccer coach of the year award for the fourth season in a row. She and her coaching staff—Daragh Fitzgerald, Emily Rowbotham, and Suka Behery—led the Mariners to a top of the table record of 10-1-1 with only five goals conceded and 34 goals scored (4 more than the rest of the conference combined). Thirteen different Mariners scored goals this season, demonstrating Bobbie's ability to rotate different players into positions to succeed.
Including Kamerman and Huggill, five Mariners were voted to the conference women's soccer all-star team. Joining them was goalkeeper Kaiden Thorpe, who led the conference in wins and shutouts; midfielder Emma Thornton, who finished third in conference goals; and central defender Mary Nicholls, a big-minutes defender who also contributed three goals.
