Mariners go 4-0 in October and finish the regular season with 3-0 and 2-1 wins
VIU women's soccer, which had already clinched top spot in the conference, didn't hold back over the final two games of the season. On the road, the Mariners defeated Capilano and Douglas to finish the regular season with a record of 10 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss.
Saturday, October 18: VIU 3 Capilano 0
After a scoreless first half, the Mariners got on the board only 17 seconds into the second half as Erin Jensen potted her first goal as a Mariner on a pass from Jada Kamerman.
A fantastic run down the left wing from Jade Dillabough resulted in Kamerman's 2-0 goal only five minutes later and a 77th-minute header from Mary Nicholls finished the scoring.
Goalkeeper Kaiden Thorpe earned the win and shoutout.
Sunday, October 19: VIU 2 Douglas 1
The host Royals did something no other team had done yet this season: score a goal on VIU 'keeper Kaiden Thorpe. Douglas's goal scoring leader Isabelle Dobbin was able to slip between the VIU defence and scored only seven minutes into this game.
VIU seized momentum back late in the first half as Emma Riccardi was able to knock a cross into the Royals net in the 44th minute to tie the game.
Brooke Ingram took over the Mariners net in the second half and earned the win thanks to a 68th-minute winning goal from Mya Creed. Her header from the far post looped perfectly over the head of the diving Douglas keeper for the lead.
